DNS is an acronym for Domain Name System. Although many refer to DNS as meaning Domain Name Server. In this industry there are many acronyms and words used they may seem confusing. This tutorial is designed to make the process of understanding what DNS or Name Servers simple.
Just as one day, some weather man decided to call rain a “Rain Event”, the Internet is often laced with terminology that will undoubtedly confuse computer users. The term DNS and Name Servers mean the exact thing.
By default whenever you register a domain name, your domain name is automatically “pointed” to our Name Servers – to our “traffic cops”. For a domain name to function, it needs to eventually resolve to the IP address of both a web server and an email server. So a domain name, by itself is just a name and for a domain name to serve a purpose, all domain names have to point to a DNS or Name Server which then sends end users to both a web server an email server or another domain name, depending on the request.
